Omnisend
to Klaviyo.
Without the mess.

Switching email platforms is mostly careful bookkeeping: getting consent across intact, warming up your sender reputation and making sure nobody gets the same email twice during the changeover. Here’s how we approach a migration for Shopify brands, and how to tell whether it’s worth doing at all.

First: should you move?

Not always. A well-run Omnisend account beats a neglected Klaviyo one. A move tends to make sense when you need deeper segmentation on Shopify data, more flexible flow logic, better reporting, or a team and tools built around Klaviyo. If the real problem is missing flows or an irregular campaign rhythm, fixing that where you are may be the better first step. We’ll say so in the audit.

What moves across

  • Profiles and consent. Export subscribers with their email and SMS consent status, and import them into Klaviyo with that status preserved. UK GDPR expects you to be able to show how and when people opted in, so keep the records.
  • Suppressions. Unsubscribes, bounces and spam complaints have to come across too. Emailing someone who unsubscribed on the old platform is a compliance problem and a deliverability one.
  • Custom properties. Birthdays, preferences, quiz answers and anything else your segments rely on.
  • Order history. This comes from Shopify, not Omnisend. Once connected, Klaviyo’s Shopify integration syncs your historical orders, so purchase-based segments work from day one.

What has to be rebuilt

  • Flows. There’s no direct import. Each automation is rebuilt in Klaviyo, which is a good moment to fix exit filters, timing and overlap rather than copying old problems across.
  • Templates. Rebuilt as reusable Klaviyo templates in your brand.
  • Sign-up forms. Recreated in Klaviyo, with the Omnisend forms removed so new subscribers land in one place.
  • Segments. Recreated using Klaviyo’s own definitions of engagement and purchase behaviour.

Protect your sender reputation

  • Set up a branded sending domain in Klaviyo, with the DNS records for SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
  • Warm up gradually. Start campaigns with your most engaged subscribers and widen the audience over the first few weeks, watching opens, bounces and complaints as you go.
  • Make sure the setup meets the Gmail and Yahoo bulk-sender rules, including one-click unsubscribe.

The switchover

  1. Capture a reporting baseline from Omnisend before you close it, because that history stays behind.
  2. Build and test every Klaviyo flow while it’s switched off.
  3. Turn Klaviyo flows on and Omnisend flows off on the same day, one pair at a time, so nobody gets both.
  4. Keep Omnisend read-only for a short overlap in case anything needs checking, then cancel it.

How long it takes

That depends on how many flows, templates and integrations you have. We agree the scope and timeline after the free audit, once we’ve seen what you’re actually running.
